Working Together for Your Child's Oral Health
We realise that the best oral hygiene for your children will be achieved if we work together. We can help educate your children about the importance of brushing their teeth, but their positive results are likely to improve when you also encourage them to practise good oral hygiene.
Steps to Follow for Oral Hygiene
1. Only eat scheduled meals and drink water between meals. Water can help keep sugars and acids from damaging your child's teeth. Remember that it's the number of times a day that your child's teeth are exposed to sweet, sticky and acidic foods that matter, not the amount of those foods they consume.
2. Use fluoride toothpaste to brush your child's teeth twice daily. If your child is very young, help them with their brushing. Once a child gets older, supervise their brushing.
3. Floss your child's teeth for them once a day until they are old enough to floss independently.
4. Replace your child's toothbrush often; when the bristles get worn, it's time for a new toothbrush.
5. Visit your McCrae dentist twice yearly for regular dental cleanings and examinations. Sticking to a regular schedule helps your child understand the importance of dental visits and can decrease anxiety about going to the dentist.
